The following list of terms will be helpful to know when discussing auto insurance: Collision Coverage is optional, but strongly recommended for cars less than 10 years old. Un/Underinsured Motorists pays for injuries caused by a a hit-and-run accident or by a driver with insufficient insurance. Personal Injury Protection is a no-fault, required coverage in New York State, which pays for medical expenses and lost income for you, your passengers, or pedestrians involved in an accident regardless of who is at fault. Rental Reimbursement is an optional coverage which reimburses you for the cost of renting a car, up to a certain amount per day, if your car is in an accident. Towing and Labor is another optional coverage that pays for necessary towing and labor on your car. Premium is the amount that you pay annually or semi-annually for your insurance policy. Deductible is the portion of a loss that you pay before the insurance company covers it.
